Peer Review Process
Submissions to Circumscribere which comply with the journal’s focus and scope are sent for peer-review (double-blind). Submissions that do not comply with the Circumscribere focus and scope are returned to the authors accompanied with an explanatory letter and removed from the list of active submissions.
Submissions which comply with the Circumscribere focus and scope are sent to two reviewers, selected from the Board of Consultants or named ad hoc. Reviewers will judge submissions according to: 1) relevance of the subject for the History of Science; 2) theoretical consistency; 3) methodological consistency; 4) internal coherence; 5) relevance and scope of bibliographical references. Reviews take usually 3 to 6 months. Peer-review is double blind: neither authors nor reviewers are aware of each other's identity. As a result of assessment, reviewers are requested to provide one of the following recommendations: 1) Accept submission; 2) Revisions required; 3) Resubmit for review; or 4) Decline submission.
In case of discrepancy, submissions are sent to a third reviewer. Final decision is made by the Editorial Board considering agreement between two among the three independent reviews.
Once a decision is made it is final and authors might no longer require reconsideration. Reviews are strictly confidential, their contents being restricted to author(s) and the Editorial Board.
Once a decision is made it is formally communicated to author(s) via e-mail, including all relevant comments and suggestions made by reviewers and the Editorial Board.
When submissions are accepted for publication, they are sent for language and style review, copyediting and layout. The resulting version is sent to author(s) for approval and eventual corrections/alterations. Author(s) are given one month to return the approved version. Authors who thus request will receive a signed letter communicating the submission’s approval.
When changes are requested, author(s) should send a revised version indicating the changes made and/or duly justified rebuttals to the reviewers’ comments and suggestions.
The Editorial Board is entitled to make style, copyediting and layout changes considered adequate for the journal style.
