Abstract

Jesus Christ is, beyond any doubt, pivotal in Christian theological reflection, Eastern and Western, Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Protestant and Pentecostal alike. It is central also in folk devotional and pious practices, without mentioning this centrality in the arts, which obviously includes literature. Many literary works of a “The Life of Jesus” style has been produced, in different literary styles, carrying on different theological understandings. This article presents, as case studies, the literary portraits of Jesus as understood by Spanish author J. J. Benitez and American novelist Anne Rice.
