Virgin Mary in cordel literature

Abstract

The main aim of this article is to investigate the presence of Virgin Mary in cordel literature. In order to achieve such a purpose the article is divided into two parts, namely: Brief history of cordel literature and Virgin Mary in cordel literature. Finally, it is said that Virgin Mary in cordel literature represents the ideal of noblewoman, holy mother and mystique woman that is found both in official form and in the doctrine of the Church as well as in the ideals of popular poetry and ordinary citizen.
