Abstract

The objective is to answer the question of how to evangelize Latin American cities today. It starts from the understanding of the city and the urban transformations in contemporary times, situated in the context of the crisis of Modernity. As a result of these scenarios, we identify characteristics of urban subjectivities and their forms of relationship with religion, the pastoral implications and demands for achieving an inculturated evangelization of cities and urban cultures. And it proposes a set of considerations about the profile and an agenda for urban pastoral. It is concluded that, to evangelize the city today, a new urban pastoral paradigm is needed that includes an itinerary, a pedagogy, a path with its own way, with its own face of the subjects in the different urban space-time today. A process whose demands are based on an attitude of assumption of cities, emerging urban cultures and their subjects, assumed in their entirety, in their lights and shadows, coming to meet them in the new conditions and sociocultural and spatiotemporal urban situations of the cities. Latin American cities, embracing their multiple and diverse representations of religion, life, relationships, pastoralism, and finally about urban evangelization in which these new subjects are interlocutors and agents.
