Abstract

History is always solicitous of revision, for sooner or later its facts and characters will be assessed by different approaches, from which new questions will be raised, advancing meanings never explored before, as well as illuminating new fields of knowledge that used to be ignored. Taking into account this perspective, this article aims at investigating the ecclesial relationship between two religious leaders – the Jesuit Priest Pedro Arrupe and Pope John Paul II, focusing on the iconic moment of worldwide transformations taking place after the World War II, when regimes of totalitarian leaning began to take hold of many nations worldwide, spreading – during their encroachment – ideologies of hatred towards Catholicism and Christianity.
