The reception of Vatican II at the Institute of the Marist Brothers

The Second Vatican Council was an event that changed the way of the Church. As Pope John XXIII said at the opening, there was a need for aggiornamento, to leave a good air circulating in the Church. The Consecrated Life was not left out of this review and had to undergo a renewal, concretely developed in the document Perfectae Caritatis which, added to the other conciliar and post-council documents, gave rise to a new way of being to Consecrated Life. It is from this scenario that Brother Basilio Rueda emerged, elected in the post-council as Superior General of the Institute of the Marist Brothers, to receive the theology of the charisms of Consecrated Life and its relevance to the Marist Institute. Some of his methods are highlights such as Circular Letters and renewal retreats, which allowed him to visit all the provinces of the world. Thus, beginning the reception and renewal of the Marist Brothers to the Conciliar proposals.
