Embodiment in the new theonomy

Abstract

The embodiment in theology is comprehended from the border between systematics (anthropology) and morality. From human understandings to anthropological consequences. Assuming a panorama of positive value regarding the body, the present article aims to discuss its experience that once heteronomy and mere autonomy are overcome gives space, through Revelation, to live theonomy. The methodology used is bibliographic with content analysis and discussion. For this, the following objectives were considered: (i) to build a brief distinction between heteronomy, autonomy and theonomy; (ii) indicate the comprehension of Revelation as a point of overcoming the conflict; and (iii) explore the application of the new theonomy to experiences of the body, sexuality, gender, and family. Thereby, it is evident that moral guidelines will fulfill the role of conscience formation and that only this will be the basis for decision-making. Once moralism and amorality are overcome, therefore, the practice of love opens to possibilities. These, in the face of failure are not subject to resignation, but open to new attempts. Thus, the experiences of dissident bodies are also understood, from issues of sexual diversity to new family configurations. It is concluded that embodiment, when finding its fullness in sexuality – as an anthropological datum – obtains, through autonomy based on God, a morality of the quality of relationships. Complex, it relates to discernment, to faithful creativity (or subversion). In this way, the itinerary of this reflection presents and elaborates arguments in an inclusive and identity perspective, that is, recognizing subjectivity as a fundamental point for the hermeneutics of tradition. Thus, the maximum expression of the body takes place through theonomy as a practice of love.
