Politics and Holiness in the Thought of Igino Giordani

Abstract

From the perspective of the intimate bond between Christology and anthropology, we have chosen the study of the figure of Igino Giordani as a topic for our research. Giordani lived before and after the Second Vatican Council, and he was a great protagonist of this period full of social, cultural, and religious tensions and transformations; moreover, he provided a great contribution to the Italian society and beyond by placing Christ as core of his actions as a Christian. The goal of this article is to offer, through some of Giordani’s writings, a reflection on the historical moment we are experiencing, which is also characterized by a profound anthropological and spiritual crisis. The methodology applied in this research is based on the analysis of some texts written by Igino Giordani. In the first part of this research, we will focus on the meeting, in 1948, between Igino Giordani and Chiara Lubich, founder of the Focolare Movement, and the influence that this meeting will have in the subsequent phase of his life. In the second part, we will record some texts written by Igino Giordani himself, from which we can note the depth of his Christianity in every sphere of social and political life. In the third part, we will talk about politics and morals from the perspective of Igino Giordani.
