Abstract

By choosing the name Francisco, Jorge Mário Bergoglio enunciated his pontificate program. Francis is a Church project, a way of thinking about Christian existentiality. It carries the prophetic spirit that denounces the unjust structures within the Church and society. It intends to eradicate the tensions that fragment human solidarity, and fights for the utopia of a society where we are all brothers. In this article we focus on a key aspect of Francis' pontificate, his prophetism. Our analysis focuses on the speeches of Pope Francis to the participants of the World Meeting of Popular Movements and his speeches on the World Day of the Poor. We aim to a) highlight Francisco's prophetism; b) its convergence with the Protestant/Lutheran spirit and c) point out how the Franciscan prophetic role dialogues with the Lutheran.
