Abstract

The theme of identity has always been dear to Paul Ricoeur, who coined the concept of narrative identity to address and develop the historical, poetic, ethical and ontological aspects of human subjectivity. This research aims to elucidate the concept of narrative identity in Ricoeur's main works in which the theme appears – namely Time and Narrative, Oneself as Another and The Course of Recognition – with the help of some of his commentators. Throughout the elucidation, the possibilities and limits of the concept will be highlighted, as well as its fidelity to the author's “long way” style.
