Abstract

Delphi was more than a great religious center that lasted for centuries. It was also a center for gathering wealth and take political decisions in ancient Greece. Great authorities inside and outside Greece came to consult the oracle before making an important decision. And there, everything turned around the Pythia, with her sensory gifts, and the priests who assisted her. The sanctuary lasted until the first centuries of the Christian era, when it was no longer in the interest of the Romans, that it decided the political directions of the region. However, in popular circles the belief in God Apollo and his Pythia remained very strong. This seems to us to be the underlying context in Acts 16:16, where we have a Pythia who participates in the announcement of Paul and Silas, the only time in the entire New Testament. The methodology to be used will be the on-site study (in situ), with the help of specific bibliography.
