Laudato Sì Yesterday, Today and Always!

Abstract

This article offers a theological-pastoral reading of the ten-year legacy of Laudato Si’, Pope Francis’ encyclical, emphasizing its enduring relevance and fruitfulness for the Church’s mission in the contemporary world. Grounded in the concepts of the “Common Home” and “integral ecology,” it argues that the ecological crisis is not only environmental but also anthropological, social, cultural, and spiritual, requiring a profound paradigm shift. The encyclical is interpreted as an integral part of Catholic Social Teaching and as a call to ecological conversion, both personal and communal, with concrete pastoral implications. Chapter VI, dedicated to ecological spirituality, is given special attention as a key to integrating faith, care for creation, and social justice. In this sense, Laudato Si’ is understood as a prophetic and ongoing process that challenges both Church and society to reorient the way we inhabit the Earth toward a more just, fraternal, and sustainable future.
