Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyze some elements of the Trinitarian language in Novatian’s thought (200), his contributions and his gaps that demonstrate the lack of language on the Trinitarian mystery in the environment in which it was, and his search in order to give an answer about the heresies that swarmed around him. This is concerned to a metaphoric and poetic language to express what he calls inexplicable when they discuss about the divine transcendence. It is intend to check the use of concepts Christological and pneumatological by developing the semantics in the Trinitarian mystery, which is in his work De Trinitate, demonstrating the influence of Tertullian (155), and the relevance of his theology of the Trinity for the development of language referring to the mystery of God in the Western world.
