The Possibilities of a Psychosomatic Immortality

Abstract

This research intends to analyze the eschatological concepts of resurrection of the flesh and resurrection of the body, which are widely discussed in theology since the second half of the 19th century. The classic eschatological model supports the immortality of the flesh while the resurrection in death model supports the immortality of the body. After a brief approach about the philosophical and theological principles of the models, the research will present the theological hypothesis of a psychosomatic immortality. According to the relatedness principle, both soul and body are immortals. To have a soul means, to the man, to be related with God in the same way that having a body means to be related with the neighbor and the nature. As much the relation with God as the relation with others and with the world do not perish in the man but become subject of judgment itself. Therefore according to this theological hypothesis, body and soul are immortals. Flesh in turn dies, however resurrects as demonstrates the catholic faith profession.
