Abstract

Mary of Magdala belongs to the popular imagination and has served as inspiration for novels, paintings among so many others. It is usually conceived as a prostitute who would have repented and washed the feet of Jesus. It is known that he was the first person to see the Risen One according to the evangelical narratives. In the Fourth Gospel is presented in the narratives of passion and resurrection. But who in fact is this extraordinary woman in the Johannine view? This study searches through the Synoptic Gospels to locate Mary Magdalene in the Fourth Gospel and thus provide a better understanding of this intriguing woman.
