Abstract

Looking at the first year of the pontificate of Pope Francis, the first Latin American pope in history, the question about his relationship with liberation theology arises. Was that theology elaborated in Latin America turns official, that she was not well regarded by past popes? What is the relationship of the pope with the Latin American theology? From this point the author lies, first, an understanding of which is liberation theology, which his achievements and what place it occupies in the theological heritage of the universal Church to then look at Francis and recognize him as the pope who “came from the end of the world”, with characteristics of Latin American’s pastors.
