Abstract

This work presents initially na analysis of the notion of “health” and “public health”, in which we can see that health is not simply the absence of disease and that public health depends on conditions related to the structure of society. Following, through a little historic of phonoaudiology and by means of the discussion about how it is practiced currently it will be possible to perceive two ways to characterize phonoaudiology: one linked to the idea of disease and the other to health. Finally, there is the outline of some principles that could insert Phonoaudiology nin Public Health. In spite of being a work turned to the analysis of the phonoaudiological practice in Public Health, its main objective is to contribute to the reflection of phonoaudiologist’s identity.
