Abstract

Nowadays, we are continually exposed to intense sound levels that may be considered unpleasant; they are called ‘noises’. We live with them in our homes, entertainment, on the streets, and mainly in our jobs. Besides causing organic and behavior problems, noises may cause damages to our hearing. The test usually used in the noise induced hearing loss diagnoses is the audiometry, but it has not been considered the most appropriate method. Thus, it is necessary the use of Speech Audiometry as a complement. This article reviews speech audiometry tests proposed in Brazil in the last five years and checks the contributions that they might bring to workers’ hearing evaluation.
