A study of the fundamental frequency of the voice of Young women with premestrual syndrome
Keywords:
voice, premenstrual syndrome, fundamental frequencyAbstract
Women present changes in the hormonal levels during the menstrual period that cause changes in the tissues. These, in turn, can determine changes in the voice, usually in patients with premenstrual syndrome (PMS). The fundamental frequency (Fo) of the voice can vary according to the vocal fold hydration. 10 young women with regular menstrual cycles and PMS were selected and their voice Fo was studied in the menstrual and premenstrual periods and in the middle of the cycle. Their voices were recorded during the vocal emission of the vowel “a” 2 or 3 days before and after menstruation, and at the middle of the cycle. The Fo measures were extracted by the CSRE-45 program. The statistical analysis of the data did not show a significant difference between the Fo values in the three studied periods.Downloads
