Abstract

In this research we limit ourselves to the work of speech therapy to minimize the damage caused by the Alzheimer disease. By following two patients, one at the initial stage of the disease and the other during the moderate stage, we were able to clearly identify all changes in language and swallowing, which accompany brain degeneration. From the start of this process, we could observe and report the swallowing alterations and the language characteristics that indicate the degree the disease has reached. We conclude that through the changes shown by the patient, we may determine with considerable precision the phase of the disease in which the patient has fallen, because such alterations are clearly marked in each of the two stages.
