“Look at me...” stuttering as a recognition demand in the family environment
Keywords:

Stuttering is a matter of difficult investigation on account of many variables that influence in it. One of these variables is the family environment. For this reason, it is important to help the patient to elaborate new versions of himself, and to understand his symptom on speaking: stuttering. Thus, it is also important to search the demand “hidden” in the stuttering symptom complained by the patient. For that, the purpose of this study was to know, from available literature, the possible relations between the stuttering symptom and the family aspects, through a psychoanalytic perspective; and the family aspects that promote or not the sprouting of the symptom. To make possible the study and its understanding, a case study was used and the results demonstrated how family aspects are important on the understanding of the patient and his symptoms. Due to the methodology used, it was not possible to make generalizations, but it demonstrated the need on listening to the patient and his stuttering beyond the symptom revealed on his speech.Downloads
