Speech language pathology intervention aspects of weather forecast announcers without voice disorders

Introduction: The subjects that use their voice professionally need some adjustments related to their professional performance and consciousness of the techniques that can be used to improve the message transmission effectiveness (Panico, 2005). Aim: to verify the speech language pathology intervention effects in a group of weather forecast announcers. Method: the data from 14 subjects regarding the complaints, the V-RQOL scores, the presentation evaluation and the interfering presentation aspects pre and post speech language pathology intervention, were compared in order to verify the intervention effects. Results: there is significant statistical relation between the data from the presentation evaluation pre and post intervention, suggesting the improvement of the subjects performance after the speech pathology intervention, associated to the diminishment of the initial complaints and improvement on the ability of dealing with the presentation interfering aspects. But there is no statistical significant difference observed neither between the pre and post scores of the V-RQOL, nor among them and the evaluations pre and post intervention. The VRQOL scores relate statiscally only with illumination problems, need of recording again a presentation and hours of presentation. Conclusion: The presentation evaluation data from the pre and post intervention moment was the best instrument that can indicate the positive effects of the speech pathology intervention, followed by the initial complaints diminishment and the improvement of the ability to deal with the interfering aspects. The use of the VRQOL protocol pre and post intervention does not detect the positive changes resulted from the intervention.Downloads
