Effectiveness of the application of the handicap questionnaire in the hearing impaired elderly

Abstract

Proposition: Application to verify the effectiveness of the Hearing Handicap Inventory for the Elderly. Objective: to verify the test-retest reliability associated with the Hearing Handicap Inventory for the Elderly (HHIE). Method: 33 elderly hearing-aid users were asked to accomplish twice the HHIE; 21 used the paper-and-pencil technique and the other 12, illiterate, used the face-to-face technique. Results: there was a significant difference between test and retest for YES and NO answers in the face-to-face technique. Conclusion: there is an accordance between the test-retest for the paper-and-pencil technique, which was not observed in the face-to-face technique.
