Giant congenital cholesteatoma: a case report

Abstract

Introduction: The congenital cholesteatoma is a rare disease, of controversial etiology. Probably of etiological nature originated from epidermal residues. Objective: To describe a case of congenital cholesteatoma attended at a public hospital in the Middle West of Brazil. Case report: 8 years old patient, masculine sex,with complaint of hypoacusis and retroauricular bulging with fi stula, that drains pus secretion at left. The stages of the attendance had been described since the initial consultation, results of examinations and surgery. Final Comments: congenital cholesteatoma must be remembered in the distinguishing diagnosis of middle ear disease and mastoid, once the injury may reach great proportions and it may favour the appearance of serious complications.
