Self evaluation of people who stutter regarding expression of attitudes
Keywords:
diagnostic self evaluation, attitude, speech, stutteringAbstract
Introduction: Through suprasegmental modifications of speech, the expression of attitudes is modulated and controlled voluntarily by speakers. It is known, however, that communication disorders, such as stuttering, may interfere with the expression of attitudes. Purpose: To verify how the subjects with stuttering make self-assessment of their expression of attitudes of certainty and doubt. Methods: Six patients underwent recording diffluent and fluent speech by issuing expressions of attitude certainty and doubt. All participants performed a perceptual test on two occasions: immediately after speaking and after hearing their own recorded speech. Results: The subjects of this study with stuttering made negative self-assessment, especially during perception with return, on the expression of certainty and doubt, regardless of the presence of disfluencies during emission. Conclusion: considering that people who stutter present negative self-assessment even in the absence of disfluency, there is an indication that the speech therapy with people who stutter should extrapolate reducing disfluencies and include suprasegmental aspects of communication.Downloads
