Speech Recognition and the word predictability in the elderly: Literature review
Keywords:

In aging, along with the decline of auditory function, age-related cognitive changes contribute to difficulties in speech processing in the elderly. In the literature, there is extensive research focusing on the isolation of the sensory and cognitive domains. A sentences test with controlled word predictability is shown as a good choice for evaluating the dynamics of hearing and cognition interaction. A Literature Review and documentary analysis was performed on the production obtained in LILACS, MEDLINE, SciELO and Cochrane Library, related to BIREME virtual library and also at the database PUBMED. The literature on the speech recognition using sentences controlled word predictability showed the importance of hearing and cognition assessment together in the elderly. Studies show consensus on the negative influence of hearing loss and the benefit of contextual cues in speech recognition, as well as greater impairment when it is presented in a distorted manner or with noiseDownloads
