Abstract

Purpose: to discuss the relationship between speech disorders and the influence of parental speech in this disorder of language. Materials and methods: the research was based on a qualitative methodology from the content analysis. Twelve relative/legal responsible-child diagnosed with having speech disorder and  sent to the Centro de Estudo de Linguagem e Fala (CELF) of Serviço de Atendimento Fonoaudiológico (SAF) of Universidade Federal de Santa Maria. It was used as an instrument an interview with open questions - Interview of Parental Speech - to check the context in which the child was in the speech of the perpetrators. Results: the results obtained by the instrument served as a comparison between the symptom presented by the child - speech disorder - and the meaning given to it through the discourse of the family. It was also found in the speech of mothers the difficulty of separation between mother/child. Conclusions: it was observed that some characteristics of the children's behavior were related to parental discourses.
