Menopausa: principais sinais e sintomas à avaliação vestibular computadorizada

Objective: To identify main symptoms and signs on computerized vestibular testing in patients with menopause. Method: Twenty-four patients with ages between 46 to 66 years were examined. We analyzed data related to symptoms and findings of computerized vestibular testing realized at the otoneurological ambulatory in Santa Casa de Misericórdia de São Paulo in 2004 and 2005. Results: 54.1% were taking hormonal replacement. The reported symptoms were headache (58,4%), hypersensibillity to intense sounds (58.4%), dizziness (54.2%), tinnitus (50%), hearing loss (50%), anxiety (50%), nausea and vomiting (41.7%), vertigo (37.5%) and depression (37, 5%). In vestibular testing we found alterations in positional nystagmus (12.5%) and caloric testing (54.2%). On the conclusion of the exam, the diagnosis of irritative type of peripheral vestibular syndrome prevailed (54,2%). Conclusion: In the vestibular testing of patients in menopause we concluded that patients had a prevalence of otoneurological symptoms and alterations on the computerized vestibular testing. The most common topographical diagnosis was the irritative type of peripheral vestibular syndrome.Downloads
