Abstract

This article intends to discuss the inexorable connection between objectivity and subjectivity in speech and language therapeutic processes, referring both to the object of this practice and to the clinical method that supports it. Firstly, this matter is approached by means of demarcating the limits of the original clinical references in the speech therapy clinic – the medical clinic -, distinguishing two possible approaches to the pathological phenomenon. Starting from the premise that subjectivity and objectivity are not opposed in the therapeutic practice in the language clinic, concepts like: Subjectivity, Listening and Symptoms, originating from the Psychoanalytical Theory, will be the frame for the clinical reasoning that is built in a case study, in which the language therapist’s role will be discussed.
