Purpose: to verify the occurrence of clinical dysphagia symptoms in cases of Progressive Spinal Atrophy of Type II (PSA II). Methods: 12 patients, of both sexes, diagnosed by the AACD neurologist and multidisciplinary team, were evaluated, age being irrelevant. Phonoaudiological evaluations were made between February and July of 2002, following a protocol prepared for this pathology by the authors. Results: it is verifiable by applying the protocol that disphagyc clinical symptoms are present in all patients suffering from PSA II, although the number of symptoms that each patient presents may vary. Conclusion: from the appraisal it was possible to observe that several clinical dysphagic symptoms in PSA II (often undetected by examination), that characterize an important swallowing disorder, are found.Downloads
