Abstract

The experience of pregnancy and childbirth has always been the exclusive domain of women who had, or not, the help of auxiliary midwives or more experienced people in the family. But over time, women took a passive position in these moments (of childbirth and pregnancy) as a result of hospital routines and medical intervention, as the hegemonic model. Thus, the woman lost the functional potential of here body to live through puerperium. In educational activities to be conducted in groups or individually, it is essential to address the issue with a clear and understandable language to promote guidelines on the physiological changes and emotional care during pregnancy to and the newborn, breastfeeding and family planning family, and involve the father, respecting the culture and the knowledge to facilitate active participation in childbirth. The aim of this paper is to describe the methodology applied in a group of pregnant women as an educational process and health promotion in the context of the Family Health Strategy. The proposed methodology seeks to bring an effective participation of pregnant women, the combination of individual choices and decisions of the team, ensuring greater effectiveness and efficiency in health work, and at the same time invest in the construction of the autonomy of women. The educational intervention carried out based on a new conception of health education, was efficient in addressing the issues proposed by the group. Although it started playing the traditional model, the group was redesigned and became active in their education process.
