Association of Parents and Friends of Exceptional Children from São Paulo city: a characterization about care services offered to the person with intellectual disability

This article deals with the characterization and registration of 11 care services available for to people with intellectual disability participating in the Association of Parents and Friends of Exceptional Children the city of São Paulo (APAE-SP), including Support Aging, pioneering service in serving longevous people with intellectual disability. The research was guided by the ethnographic method and its subjects were mostly coordinators of APAE-SP. It is concluded that APAE-SP institutional model represents a broad reach, as is organized to suit different stages of life of this population on an interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary bases. The record of this institutional experience may serve as a model for the opening of new services as well as promoting knowledge about this population in Brazil.Downloads
