Integrative review conducted by the selection of articles on the Virtual Health Library, in January 2012, using the descriptors trauma, emergency care, nursing, eternal causes, prevention and elderly. The publication period was unconfined. The study was composed of 25 articles in full and analyzed using content analysis. It was evident that the main causes of trauma in the elderly were falls and traffic accidents. Furthermore, the shares evidenced prevention were promoting exercise, hydrotherapy and educational activities in traffic. Noteworthy is the negative influence of the trauma to the quality of life of the elderly and the need for planning of preventive actions to reduce the geriatric trauma.
