Contributions of physical activity in promoting health, autonomy and independence of elderly

This study aimed to develop an integrative review of literature about the relationship between physical activity with the aging process and its interface with the autonomy and functional independence of older people. This is a qualitative, descriptive and analytical, based on a literature review in the database of the Virtual Health Library, the descriptors: "autonomy", "elderly" and "physical activity". 89 articles met and after content analysis, 16 articles were selected. It was possible to see the relationship and the benefits provided by the practice of regular physical activity in relation to the maintenance of health and autonomy and independence of the elderly.
