The study the type randomized clinical trial that verified the association of muscle strength with the risk of falls of elderly residents in long-term care facilities for the institutionalized elderly. The elderly were divided into control group (G1) and group intervention (G2) and evaluated in the baseline and post intervention. By means of Timed Up and Go Test (TUGT), strength check of the hold Manual (FPM) and the Lift Chair Test (LC) it was observed the proposed exercise program contributed to the maintenance or improvement of muscle strength of elderly, contributing to na improvement in the risk of falls.
