The purpose of this article was to present a narrative review of the literature on the relation between the urban environment and social relationships in old age. Six articles from Urban Studies Abstracts database were used. The studies’ analysis showed that the neighborhood’s environmental conditions can influence the social relations of its elderly residents, intensifying the isolation of the subjects when it lacks of resources, and promoting socialization when it offers opportunities for walking and social exchange.
