Abstract

Systematic review of the literature that sought to discuss the psychosocial impacts of the institutionalization of the elderly in Brazil. After the definition of inclusion and exclusion criteria, were selected twenty seven articles. Through the survey, 27 articles were selected. It was observed that psychosocial impacts are related to exclusion, psychic suffering, lack of autonomy and future plans, feelings of abandonment, pathologies, sleep disturbances and use of psychoactive drugs. Thus, it is necessary to produce studies, aiming to promote the health and quality of life of institutionalized elderly.
