Abstract

The long-term care institution for the aged is a kind of protection of the citizen in the absence of effective programs that maintain the elderly in the community and is indicated as a way out of individuals who have stories of lives marked by neglect, poverty, low education and early loss of family. This article presents a report of Susan and Alvaro to start a reflection about possibilities of subjective survival, despite the difficulties imposed by the institutionalization process. These reports teach the history of the subject, its production within the institution, can be re-signified. The discussion guides for the need to preserve interactions, considering that language promotes changes and meanings supports the subject.
