This article is part of Master's thesis on Aging Sciences. It reports an exploratory study, cross court, with qualitative analysis of speech on phenomenological basis carried out with ten elderly of São Paulo. The findings reveal that memories of food on childhood are present in the daily lives of the elderly and interfere with the current choices; the memories may be pleasant or not, and food and religious events are interconnected. The limitations of the study do not allow generalizations, but can contribute to the increase of information, especially qualitative, concerning interferences in the aging process, among which there is the issue of emotional memories to hinder the maintenance of diets.
