Abstract

A pioneer in Brazil, the Social Work with Elderly (TSI) developed since 1963 by SESC / SP is still, fifty years later, paradigm for care for the elderly projects. In the city center, the IST began quietly with recreational activities to meet retirees in social isolation and physical decay process. Over the fifty years the activities have diversified: were added programs, projects, courses, workshops, regional and national meetings bringing together thousands of elderly. The extensive cultural and artistic program - music, theater, literature, sports, tourism - meets the demands of the elderly population grows and becomes avid consumer of knowledge and cultural goods.

Daizy Valmorbida Stepansky, Professor Adjunto IV aposentada, atuando no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Sociologia e Direito da Universidade Federal Fluminense.

Doutorado em Comunicação, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro. Mestrado em Sociologia, Instituto Universitário de Pesquisas do Rio de Janeiro. Graduação em Ciências Sociais, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul. Professor Adjunto IV aposentada, atuando no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Sociologia e Direito da Universidade Federal Fluminense.
