Abstract

With the increase of elderly population worldwide, it is fundamental to study issues around this topic. Therefore, we chose to research widowhood among the elderly in Brazilian and international literature, aiming at understanding its influence in the health of the elderly. The studies analyzed in this research show the effects of widowhood in various aspects of the elderly’s life, aside from the association between widowhood, worse health prognosis and mortality.
