The discussions in the area of palliative care and aging are scarce, so this article focuses on the influence of palliative care in family relationships. This was a qualitative study with eight caregivers of elderly people in nursing home care. Data was classified by analyzing the content. The categories included family, care and spirituality. Overloading the activity brings to the primary caregiver and the feeling of helplessness generated when this caregiver alone assumes all liabilities, can cause seizures and possible disruptions in the family system.
