Physical activity programs for institutionalized elderly people - contexts and practices

The promotion and maintenance of FA provide to elderly people increased independence in ADLs and QoL. It is our goal to characterize the dynamics of development of physical activity programs (FAP) identifying the regularity of FA sessions, the type of activities developed, the underlying criteria for selection and the intensity of perception of effort required during the FAP. The sample consisted of 11 professionals from 8 institutions in the district of Aveiro, Portugal, with responsibilities in the development of FAP, respondents through semi-structured interview. It was found that the analyzed programs have regularities, durations, intensities and similar criteria.
