Notification of AIDS in the elderly in the municipality of Santa Maria, RS: a historical series

With the demystification of sex in the elderly, there is greater concern about the increase in the number of AIDS cases. Objective: To investigate the prevalence and characteristics of reported cases of AIDS in the elderly in the city of Santa Maria, RS, Brazil. Methods: Descriptive research using data from the "Tabulations of epidemiological surveillance - CEVS / SES / RS" in the item "SINAN NET e. dengue online ", the" Adult AIDS "option was identified in" confirmed cases, residing in RS, 2007 to 2017 ". In the page "Adult AIDS - cases reported in the SinanNet Notification of Injury Information System", the total number of cases, sex discrimination and the form of transmission in the elderly from 60 to 69 years, 70 to 79 years and 80 years and more in the period from 2012 to 2017 in the notification municipality of Santa Maria. As a form of transmission it was found in "vertical transmission", "sexual intercourse", "injecting drug use", "accident by biological material", "treatment for hemophilia" and "blood transfusion". Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics. Results: In this period, 37 new cases of AIDS, in the age range of 60 to 69 years (24 cases), were reported in men (23 cases) transmitted by heterosexual intercourse (35 cases). Conclusion: There was a high prevalence of AIDS notification in the elderly. It is hoped that this knowledge can subsidize data for the elaboration of public policies for this population, propitiating a lower incidence of this disease and its aggravations.Downloads
