Quality of the sleep of the old people of the retired and pensionist Metallurgists Association of Ipatinga, Minas Gerais

Sleep undergoes physiological changes due to endogenous and exogenous factors that interfere in the individual's life quality, especially in the elderly. The objective of this study was to evaluate the quality of sleep of the elderly belonging to the Association of retired metallurgists and pensioners in the city of Ipatinga, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. As a method, the cross-sectional, quantitative study. Results: the sample consisted of 100 elderly, mostly men (61%) and the average age of 67.7 years (± 6.8 years). The majority of the elderly goes to bed at 11 p.m., sleeping about 6 or 7 hours, efficiency greater than 85%, latency of over 16 minutes, subjective quality of good sleep in 73% and according to the PSQI in 45. It was concluded that the elderly participants in this research presented a better sleep quality standard than that described in the literature.
