Objective: To evaluate the degree of dependence of the elderly and their relation with family functionality. An exploratory, descriptive, quantitative approach study with 37 elderly patients. It was verified that 81.1% are elderly dependent and 51.4% have a highly functional family. Conclusion: It was evidenced that most of the elderly had dependence and that although a direct relationship between the variables was not identified, the importance of understanding them is verified.
