The objective of this paper was to offer an expanded and diversified look to the theme of the first author's thesis about the legal adoption of grandchildren by grandparents, based on the contributions offered by the examiners at the time of defense/viva. It presents a summary view of the thesis, plus a bibliographic review and methodological considerations regarding systemic theory. It concludes that grandparents who have legal custody of their grandchildren represent a restorative foundation of the thread that links these people as a family.
