Abstract

The demographic and social changes point for the necessity of a organization of a home care network together with a primary care health service to take care of elderly with dependence. The objectives of this article are: to discuss the organization of primary care services and home care in its legal bases; to analyze the suggestion of the Project “Better in Home”, from the Health Ministry, as a model of Brazilian home care and reflect how these services can promote mental health to the caregiver as well to the elderly. We conclude that the integration of primary and home care services can give a support to the physical and mental health of the elderly and their families.
