Abstract

As the process self-caring is a foundational element of human subjectivity, the research aims produce knowledge related to the perception of the elderly octogenarian about self-care. The used methodology was of qualitative approach of exploratory descriptive type. The sample is non probabilistic, composed by 10 participants, defined by typicality, corresponding to the elderly aged 80 years or more. The data were collected through semi-structured interview and interpreted in the perspective of content analysis. Through the analysis of the narratives, it was observed that the dimensions of the process of ageing, of the quality of life, and of the social value are strictly bonded to self-care.
