Falls prevalence in institutionalized elderly in Brazil: an integrative review

Abstract

The purpose of writing this article was to meet the production of scientific knowledge linked will prevalence of falls among institutionalized elderly in Brazil. This is an integrative review of the literature 2005 to 2015, relating to articles published in English and Portuguese. The selection was based crossovers between the descriptors: elderly health, accidental falls, homes for the aged and quality of life in databases: Lilacs, Medline, PEDro and SciELO. In the final sample 7 articles were selected, of which 4 South and 3 were of Southeast. From the survey of the studies it was found that in general articles worked from the perspective of quantifying the prevalence of falls among elderly people living in ILPI, trace the profile of the elderly and the possible factors associated with falls. According to the analysis of the articles observed that the occurrence of falls in the elderly population resident ILPI is high.
